Medicare Enrollment Periods

Medicare Enrollment Periods

Knowing the timing helps you make informed decisions

IEP

Initial Enrollment Period

A 7-month window around your 65th birthday—starting 3 months before, including your birthday month, and ending 3 months after.

AEP

Annual Enrollment Period

From October 15 to December 7 each year, when you can join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan.

MA OEP

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment

From January 1 to March 31, when those already in a Medicare Advantage plan can make a one-time change.

SEP

Special Enrollment Period

Available after certain life events, such as moving or losing other coverage, that may let you make changes outside the usual periods.
